UCLA NANOVATION COMPETITION TEAM Five Fairmont Prep freshmen in the ASEP program attended the UCLA Nanovation Competition to present their business plan for a silver nanoparticle/cellulose polymer product. In a Shark Tank format, the team pitched to UCLA Professors from the California Nanosystems Institute, the Anderson School of Business, and L.A. businesspeople. To prepare for the competition, they worked with UCLA Ph.D. students and an ASEP senior mentor, putting in long hours on their business plan, research, and pitch. The team's work paid off when they won 1st place among 50 schools and a received a check for $2000! KAMEEL KHABAZ Kameel Khabaz, Fairmont Prep Valedictorian and member of the Advanced Science & Engineering Program, became a USA Biology Olympiad in 2019. After proceeding through two rounds of challenging exams and moving ahead of thousands of students as a finalist, he proceeded to the U.S. International Biology Olympiad Competition at the University of Toronto and placed in the top 1% of international students. He is now attending a residential training program at UCSD where he studies advanced biology and lab skills, continuing to lead and innovate. CIERRA HALL Alumna Cierra Hall was a three-year varsity letter winner for the Huskies, helping her team to achieve a 69-23 record and become CIF State Division II quarter finalists during her time at Fairmont Prep. A member of the National Honor Society and an AP Scholar with distinction, last year she was named Fairmont Prep Academy's Bioethics Student of the Year. By flourishing in multiple areas of interest at Fairmont, including the Advanced Science & Engineering Program, she is prepared to thrive as a bio major and vital member of the U.C. Davis basketball team this year.
