8318: First Year Seminar 5 credits 4335: Psychology CP* 5 credits per semester Prerequisite: None Grade level: 11th & 12th SOCIAL SCIENCE 4146: Global Issues 5 credits per semester Prerequisite: Department approval This course introduces students to core areas in the fields of psychology, such as biopsychology, research, cognitive psychology, social psychology, abnormal psychology and psychotherapy. The course emphasizes student research projects, and students are encouraged to critically examine their world and their experiences. This course is not designed to prepare students for the AP Psychology exam, but is intended to develop students��� interest in the subject. This class provides one year of Social Science elective credit. 4132: Philosophy IB SL* 5 credits per semester ELECTIVE COURSES 4144: AP Economics* 5 credits per semester Prerequisite: Department approval and at least an A in CP U.S. History and a B in Algebra or at least a B in US History AP or History of the Americas I Grade level: 12th 4021: European History CP* 5 credits per semester Prerequisite: World History Grade level: 10th-12th This course prepares students to take the AP Macroeconomics exam. The course facilitates the students��� understanding of the economic problems and institutions of the nation and the world. A particularly strong emphasis is given to studying and analyzing the role of government in economics, monetary and fiscal growth, different types of inflation and methods of addressing it, the rise of the global economy and the problems and benefits of international trade. Students write several analytical essays and research papers. This course focuses on the development of Western civilization from the Renaissance to the present. European social, political, intellectual, economic and cultural history are studied. Students continue to develop skills in reading primary and secondary sources, critical thinking, research and expository writing. 4023: AP European History* 5 credits per semester Prerequisite: Department approval and writing proficiency exam at least a B in AP World History or an A in CP N.W. World History Grade level: 10th-12th 4334: AP Psychology* 5 credits per semester Prerequisite: Department approval and an A in previous level CP social science course or a B in previous AP social science course or 10th grade Medical Magnet candidates Grade level: 11th & 12th This college level course prepares students for the Advanced Placement examination in European history. Students develop their critical writing skills and work extensively with primary and secondary historical documents. European political, economic, social and cultural history from the Renaissance to the present is studied in depth. This course introduces students to the systematic and scientific study of psychology, with an emphasis on the behavior and mental processes of human beings and animals. Students are exposed to the psychological facts, principles and phenomena associated with each of the major sub-fields within psychology. Students also learn about the methods psychologists use in their science and practice, as well as the history of psychology and its influence and application in contemporary society.
