The Orange County academic Decathlon is a rigorous high school competition of ten events hosted by the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) in conjunction with the united States academic Decathlon (uSaD). Tests include: math, art, music, economics, social science, science, language, and literature. additional competitions include speech, essay and interview. Each year, the subjects are created around a common theme. The theme for the 2013-2014 school year was World War i. OC ACADEMiC DECAThlOn 3rd 10 th 10th Fairmont's junior high debate students compete in the Orange County Debate league against students from 13 other local schools including: heritage Oak, Pegasus, Serra Catholic, buena Park, and Orange Crescent. They compete in five Orange County league Tournaments each year, as well as the middle School Public Debate Program national Championship.
