High School International Baccalaureate Medical Magnet The IB Diploma Program is a rigorous academic program, which gives students the opportunity to earn an honors-level, internationally recognized high school diploma that can be used for admittance to universities around the world. Fairmont is one of few private schools in Orange County that offers an IB Program, and our program is unique because it is highly individualized. We work one-on-one with students to develop the best course of study. The Medical Magnet program is a selective advanced science program, which began in 2003 to prepare motivated students for success as science majors at highly regarded colleges and universities. The College Board and the University of California have recognized courses in the program as "exemplary and innovative." "The IB Program is recognized worldwide as a full curriculum that showcases not only a student's strengths, but his/her breadth as well. The rigors of the IB Program, both inside and outside of the classroom, are well known to colleges across the country and are seen as a huge plus in an applicant's file." Sophomores carry out independent research and have the opportunity to present their work at the annual IEEE Measurement Science Conference. Students in the Medical Magnet Program have participated in the following research projects: ��� ��� ��� ��� ��� ��� ��� ��� Ovarian Cancer (UCI) Cast Creation for Spinal Curvature Physical Therapy (USC) Stroke and Parkinson���s Research (USC) Methionine Cancer Research (UCLA) HIV Research (USC) Metabolic Machines and Cadaver Dissection (USC) Biodiesel Research (CSUF) 2012 IB Diploma: An honors-level high school diploma that may be used for admittance to universities around the world. It is viewed as a rigorous course of study by universities in the United States, and most offer college credit for the full diploma and/or individual IB courses. The IB Diploma may only be pursued during the last two years of high school, and requires a combined score of 24 points in all exams, Theory of Knowledge, and the Extended Essay. IB Diploma with Distinction: An IB Diploma with a combined score of 30 or more points in all exams, Theory of Knowledge, and the Extended Essay.
