Debate ( Junior High & High School) Fairmont���s junior high debate students compete in the Orange County Debate League against students from ten other local schools including: Heritage Oak, Pegasus, Serra Catholic, and Orange Crescent. They compete in five Orange County League Tournaments each year, in addition to the Middle School Public Debate Program National Championship (upon qualification). Fairmont���s High School introduced its new debate program in 2012 under the leadership of Dr. Matthew Brandstetter, Dean of Academics. Fairmont Preparatory Academy students compete in the National Forensic League against other local high schools, including: Northwood, Oxford, Fullerton, and Sage Hill. Highlights of their Fall 2012 season include: Orange County Debate League Championship First Place Nationally in the National Forensic League's "I Approve This Message" Presidential Debate Contest The Orange County Debate League Championship, the final tournament of the year, was held in May 2012. Over 100 students participated. 2012 Novice Championship ��� 2nd place - Anaheim Hills 3rd place - North Tustin 2nd 1st Place in Parliamentary Debate ��� Overall (Given to the school with the highest number of wins) 1st Place in National Extemporaneous CSUF Speech and Debate Tournament ��� Semi-Finalists in Novice Parliamentary Debate Public Debate Program Tournament 2nd place - Anaheim Hills ��� 3rd Place - School Tournament Award ��� Place Tournament (Given to the school with the highest percentage number of wins) 2nd Place - School Overall Percentage of Debate Awards Won ��� 1st Place Team Debate ��� 1st Place Speaker Award ��� 2nd Place Speaker Award Middle School Public Debate Program (MSPDP) National Championship 9 Fairmont students qualified for the National Debate League Championship (to compete against 100 teams and 300 students nationally) and won: 4th 6th place team place speaker award award & Best in League (Anaheim Hills) - Given to the top performing school of each league Academic Decathlon 28 The Orange County Academic Decathlon is a rigorous high school competition of ten events hosted by the Orange County Department of Awards Education (OCDE) in conjunction with the United Including: States Academic Decathlon (USAD). Each year the subjects are created around a common theme. The theme for the 2011-2012 school year was Building of Empires. Tests include: math, art, music, economics, social science, science, language, and literature. Additional competitions include: speech, essay, and interview. At Fairmont Prep, students opt-in to join a 0 Period class to prepare for the competition. The Fairmont Prep team, consisting of A, B, and C students, is selected through a series of scrimmage tests hosted by the USAD and OCDE.
