W
hen excellence is the standard, every
year is extraordinary. Fairmont Prep
was voted Best Private High School
in Orange County once again last year, and the
Huskies demonstrated "why" with their stellar
accomplishments in academics and beyond.
The Prep continued its debate dominance
in 2023-24, closing out the season as
the nation's top Public Forum Debate
(PFD) team. One Husky debate duo
earned eight gold qualifying bids to the
Tournament of Champions in PFD – more
than any other individual team in the
nation. Coach Gabe Rusk was appointed
to the National Speech and Debate
Association Topic Selection Committee
for the second consecutive year.
It was another STEM-sational year for our Huskies, as
they applied what they learned in the classroom to
real-world solutions. One team of students took home
the top award for their submission to the Conrad
Challenge held at Space Center Houston, which
proposed a new way to prevent ice buildup on aircraft
wings. Another student published groundbreaking
research that delved into the complex relationship
between cholesterol management and Crohn's Disease
and shed light on potential treatment strategies.
Several students demonstrated their writing prowess
in high-profile competitions, including the Better
Business Bureaus Ethical Torch Essay Contest (1st and
2nd place) and the Sejong Cultural Society's Korean
Literature Essay Contest (2nd place).
