T
he Cougar Crew resumed its winning ways
at local and statewide science competitions,
with three students placing first in their
respective fields at the Orange County Science &
Engineering Fair, and one taking top honors in the
state at California Science & Engineering Fair. Four
budding scientists were also invited to take part
in Broadcom Masters, the nation's premier middle
school STEM competition.
Anaheim Hills continued to excel
with its award-winning Speech
and Debate program. Even the
pandemic's shift to remote
competitions couldn't prevent
them from taking top honors at
many events and claiming
a Hopkins Gavel Award for
1st place debater.
"Travel Week" resumed in 2021-22, and our middle
schoolers took full advantage of their educational
excursions. The 8th graders ventured to Washington,
D.C. to learn more about our nation's history and
governance; 6th and 7th graders hit the mountains
to explore and engage in experiential learning at
science camp. It was a very welcomed return to
some of Fairmont's most beloved traditions.
Community service opportunities abounded,
highlighted by "Philanthropy Fridays." Each grade
level selected a charity to support throughout last
year. The campus raised over $12,000 to benefit
worthy causes ranging from a local dog rescue to
funding research for leukemia and lymphoma.
ASB and faculty worked hard to infuse extra fun into
student life, including a middle school roller disco
dance and one "thriller" of a Halloween parade.
