W e were thrilled to reunite with our international students when they were finally able to return to America last August, following a full year of being in their home countries. While COVID presented challenges for every member of the Fairmont community, perhaps no group was more impacted than our international students — and we couldn't be more proud of the resilience and grit they exhibited. Twice-a-year standardized testing resumed in 2021-22, beginning with fall's benchmark assessment which ensured students were properly placed in their classes and that teachers were armed with the information they needed to personalize each student's instruction and maximize their success. While language support for elementary students continued on a pull-out basis, 2021-22 saw a change in the way 6th-12th grade students received their language assistance. "Adapted classes" replaced the prior support program, enabling Fairmont to further enhance matriculation. These classes focus on vocabulary and the four skills of language learning, and provide a streamlined and individualized approach that ensures students get the reinforcement they need, while still giving them full access to Fairmont's advanced curriculum. Adapted classes for high school are UC-approved and credit-bearing.
