T he Class of 2022 continued the Prep's tradition of gaining acceptance to the nation's best colleges — 95% of those who applied to "Top 100" schools received offers to attend. What's more, students who had been at Fairmont since 9th grade had a 100% acceptance rate! Some of the schools that were eager to welcome our graduates to their campuses include Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, Rice University, Stanford University, and Yale University. Fairmont Prep is no stranger to awards and recognition. So it was no surprise when the spotlight shined on our Huskies once again in 2021-22. Two teams from the Advanced Engineering and Science Program were honored by Engineering World Health with first and third-place finishes in their GLOBAL bioengineering competition for developing extremely compelling low-cost/low-resource biomedical solutions for improving healthcare delivery in the developing world – delivering oxygen tanks to hospitals in rural Uganda (1st place) and making distilled water at local clinics for underserved people in the Dominican Republic (3rd place). The Speech and Debate team performed at the highest echelons and finished their season in the top five nationally for the number of qualifiers at the Tournament of Champions, including one debater who was ranked #1 in California by the National Speech and Debate Association. Prep's Robotics team captured the Raytheon Technologies Innovate Award at the FTC Southern California Championship. For the first time in school history, our decathletes were invited to compete in the California Academic Decathlon, where they placed third in the state and won a total of 10 medals — one gold, three silver, and six bronze. Students in the International Business Program took full advantage of relaxed COVID restrictions by visiting businesses like Hyperice, one of the nation's largest performance tech companies, where they spent part of the day discussing real-world business applications with founder and president, Anthony Katz.
