W hen we were cleared to reopen for on-campus, in-person instruction last fall, we did so with a comprehensive plan to protect the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff. Fairmont was granted a waiver by Orange County health authorities which speaks to the rigor of the protocols which were put in place to safeguard our community. Our on-campus students, faculty, and staff embraced the rigorous new protocols our Reopening Task Force developed in conjunction with federal, state, and local health authority guidance. Fairmont's safe reopening plan included everything from the "basics" (such as the use of social distancing, masks, and rigorous sanitation) to incorporating physical enhancements (e.g., the installation of touchless restroom fixtures and portable hand washing stations) to adopting new operational procedures (e.g., utilizing small groups/cohorts, providing thorough COVID training for staff). As parents and educators, we were required to put the things we teach our kids into practice. We were working to come up with solutions with a spirit of teamwork and collaboration, and a willingness to do whatever it took to achieve our goals. I'm so proud of the work we did to reopen our schools and offer parents a choice over how best to educate their children during this uncertain time.
