What was truly valuable to me were multicultural friends I have met who with me at the same dining table. it amazing to have such conversation them because I got to promote, exchange and expand my perspective on global society." said Ken Hsu KEN HSU CLASS OF 2020 This year, Fairmont student Isabella C. traveled to Beijing for a six week study abroad program at Fairmont's partner Limai Chinese American School. There she studied Mandarin (including Mandarin language Math and Science), Art, Theatre, Dance and Gym, among other subjects, and discovered the culture of Beijing. In addition to building meaningful relationships with her teachers, she received support from Fairmont and Limai staff and two room parents who helped her to plug into her studies and get acclimated to the city. Isabella learned new skills, enjoyed delicious Chinese cuisine and met exceptionally friendly and accommodating students who became good friends. Her homeroom teacher made her studies fun and productive, and Isabella enjoyed water brush and sand painting with her inspiring art instructor. In addition to the exploring all of creative and academic classes at Limai, and the bustling city of Beijing, Isabella was able to visit the South Sea of China and Lotus Mountain — making some of her favorite memories in her time abroad. By studying at Limai, Isabella was able to connect more deeply with her birth culture. She had the resources to embrace Mandarin, to more fully identify with her place of origin and to be prepared for a broader range of future opportunities.
