Student SPOTLIGHTS VISHAAL K. Vishaal K. is a 7th grade student from Fairmont Anaheim Hills. Recently, he finished in second place at the AHC junior high spelling bee which included grades 6-8. This qualified him to participate in the Orange County Spelling Bee where he finished in the top 30 in Orange County on the written portion. After his second win, he qualified to compete in the preliminaries for Scripps National Spelling Bee held in Washington D.C. Vishaal finished in the top ten overall which was a fantastic achievement. His commitment to preparing for this event and the hours he spent practicing and seeking help from his teacher paid off in the way he represented our community. NATALEY K. Congratulations to Nataley K., from the Historic Anaheim Campus, who is now a Carson Scholar. Carson Scholarships are awarded to students who have embraced high levels of academic excellence and community service. Dr. Ben Carson started the fund back in 1994 by awarding 25 students scholarships. The Carson Scholar program has now recognized over 7,000 students over the years. Nataley received scholarship money, a medal, and her name was added to a trophy. Nataley is also a Husky Elite recipient at Historic Anaheim for her outstanding GPA. She is very excited to attend Fairmont Prep in the fall. MARTAND BHAGAVATULA While playing his violin with his youth group at a pediatric hospital, Martand Bhagavatula noticed a lot of the patients lacked a source of entertainment. There was nothing for them to pass the time while they were in the hospital. That gave him an idea, toy drives. From that small idea grew his non-profit 501(c)3 called Kids and Smiles (kidsnsmiles.org). To date, they have collected and donated over 3,000 toys, books, and DVDs to hospitals throughout Orange County. In 2018 he was even featured on "Home and Family" on the Hallmark Channel. He says when it comes to community service, "Find something you're passionate about."
