FAIRMONT PREPARATORY ACADEMY Since stories have been told, there have always been elements of the fantastic, whether they be small drops of the surreal in an otherwise mundane story, or stories where the rules of reality bend and sometimes break. Many authors use fantastic situations in their quests to make meaningful literature and we, as readers, are fortunate to benefit from this undertaking. This class examines fantastic fiction in many different forms, from a full length novel to short stories and myths; all forms of literature that contain the bizarre, the surreal, the amazing, and, yes, the fantastic, are explored and mined for their literary merit. Students read and write extensively in this class and discuss the issues dealt with in the texts they read. 8
