PHYSICAL EDUCATION PHYSICAL EDUCATION The ultimate goal of the Fairmont Preparatory Academy Physical Education Department is to build strong, well-rounded men and women. This requires paying attention to playing by the rules and showing good sportsmanship. Fairmont will teach students how to live healthy lives. Both physical and psychological growth, as well as the character and emotional maturity of each person is conscientiously considered when planning and implementing our physical education program. The basic approaches used to develop the Health and Physical Education learning experience include the following: 9010: Health 5 credits (One semester) Prerequisite: None Grade level: 9th-12th Required Course ��� Expose students to various sports through physical training and understanding of the rules ��� Expose students to weight training and recent physical fitness techniques and skills ��� Relate the fundamentals of proper exercise and diet ��� Study the dangers of drugs, alcohol, tobacco and disease ��� Teach self-confidence and decision-making to help students control the risk factors in their lives This course makes students aware of how to live healthy lives. This course provides for charactershaping and focuses on a positive self-image. It outlines the methods of exercise, diet and fitness to reach personal health goals. The course also examines interpersonal relationships and how they affect our lives as well as the dangers of drugs and disease. It covers methods of prevention of healththreatening problems. During each semester, the students practice and participate in three popular sporting activities as well as the Presidential Physical Fitness program. 9021: CIF Sports 5 credits per team sport Prerequisite: None Grade level: 9th-12th ��� Two semesters of Physical Education/Health are mandatory for all 9th graders ��� CIF sports played as freshmen do not fulfill the PE requirements ��� Each CIF sport played in grades 10 to 12 will fulfill one semester credit per sport There are 15 varsity level sports teams offered for both men and women. These teams are chosen by the coach and participate in California Interscholastic Federation approved events. Students who complete a full season in CIF Sports will receive one semester���s credit toward their P.E. requirement. 9000: Physical Education 5 credits per semester Prerequisite: None Grade level: 9th-12th 9051 ��� CIF Golf 9052 ��� CIF Volleyball 9053 ��� CIF Tennis 9054 ��� CIF Softball 9055 ��� CIF Soccer 9057 ��� CIF Cheer 9058 ��� CIF Basketball 9059 ��� CIF Cross Country 9061 ��� CIF Football 9062 ��� CIF Baseball The Physical Education Department program at the high school level provides an experience which is aimed at developing an appreciation for the benefits and enjoyment of physical activity. Graduates of the program fully understand the relationship between good health and regular exercise.
