2072: Mathematics IB SL* 5 credits per semester Prerequisite: C or better in Mathematical Studies IB SL or C or better in Honors Pre-Calculus or B or better in Pre-Calculus CP 2078: AP Calculus AB/Calculus BC* CSUF Math 150 A/B* 5 credits per semester, 8 units Prerequisite: A or better in Pre-Calculus Honors & index score >170 This course is designed to prepare students for the IB Math SL exam and to give them a solid foundation for IB Math HL. The course also covers material needed for success on the AP Calculus AB test. The topics studied include algebra, functions and equations, circular functions and trigonometry, matrices, vectors, statistics and probability, differential and integral calculus. The course is not designed solely for success on the IB exam, but rather is a comprehensive study of mathematics designed to give the students a strong understanding and background for future success in science, engineering, or mathematics. In addition to these topics, students are required to complete a portfolio, demonstrating their understanding of mathematical concepts and processes, mathematical writing, and thoughtful reflection. MATHEMATICS This course is a rigorous, accelerated calculus course that satisfies both the AP Calculus AB and BC curriculum requirements in one year. Topics will include limits, differentiation, integration, volume of revolution, convergent/divergent series, Taylor Polynomials, parametric equations, polar coordinates, and applications. The course is not designed solely for success on the AP exam. It is a comprehensive study of calculus which gives students a strong understanding and background for future success in science, engineering, or mathematics. 2063 AP Calculus BC/Mathematics IB HL* CSUF Math 150B* 5 credits per semester, 4 units Prerequisite: B or better in Calculus AB (AP) or B or better in IB Math SL and a 3 or better on the AP Calculus AB exam 2059: AP Calculus AB/Mathematics IB SL* CSUF Math 150A* 5 credits per semester, 4 units Prerequisite: B or better in IB Pre-Calculus & index score > 160 or B or better in Mathematical Studies IB SL & index score > 160 or A or better in Pre-Calculus CP & index score >170 The course covers all the material on the AP Calculus BC test and emphasizes higher level thinking in addition to learning basic skills. A brief review of Calculus AB leads to an in depth application of calculus involving sequences and series, Taylor polynomials, parametric equations, polar equations, vector-valued functions, and an introduction to multivariable calculus. The course is not designed solely for success on the AP exam, but rather is a comprehensive study of calculus designed to give the students a strong understanding and background for future success in science, engineering, or mathematics. This course covers all the material on the AP Calculus AB test and emphasizes higher level thinking in addition to learning basic skills. A brief review of trigonometry and pre-calculus leads to an indepth analysis of limits, derivatives, differentiation techniques, curve sketching, integrals, integration techniques, the calculus of transcendental functions, and the applications therein. The course is not designed solely for success on the AP exam. It is a comprehensive study of calculus which gives students a strong understanding and background for future success in science, engineering, or mathematics. 13 WWW.FAIRMONTSCHOOLS.COM
