Immersion Programs Over 200 students visited Fairmont in 2012 for short-term group language study. These students attended special language acquisition and American culture programs at Fairmont Schools and interacted with our Fairmont students during lunch, break, and before/after school. These interactions gave our Fairmont students, as well as the visiting international students, the unique opportunity for meaningful cultural exchange. Pinghe Pre-IB Program For 3 years, Fairmont has hosted International Baccalaureate students from Shanghai. The goal of this program is to prepare top-tier students for the academically rigorous, critical thinking and writing-based IB Program. While at Fairmont, students study American history and literature, participate in community service activities, and explore Southern California on the weekends. The program highlight? Partnership with Global Edu This summer, Fairmont began exploring special joint-program opportunities with Global Edu Foundation in South Korea. Global Edu operates a special English language Saturday School program in Seoul. As part of this program, Korean students have the opportunity to attend a special Fairmont program in August and January during their school breaks. The Global Edu students are third through sixth graders and they enjoy spending time with our young Fairmont students. Fairmonts Homestay Program For both short- and long- term stays, Fairmont offers visiting students and teachers a unique immersion program through accommodations with Fairmont (and other American) families. For Fairmont families, hosting an international student provides an excellent opportunity to learn about other cultures. International students enjoy sharing insights and anecdotes about their food, customs, and experiences, and Fairmont students enjoy sharing their insights in exchange. "We learned so many things about American education during our visit, and saw our students enjoy so many new activities. I want to keep doing the Friday Forum (current events discussion activity) back in Shanghai. Ive never seen my students so engaged." - Beibei, Pinghe Chaperone www.fairmontschools.com | 28 www.fairmontschools.com | 32
